THE death of a schoolboy rescued from the sea near the Great Orme is understood to have been caused by drowning, an inquest opening has heard.
Dillan James Brown, 13, of King's Road, Llandudno died on May 5 after he entered the water off the coast that evening.
Opening an inquest into his death in a brief hearing in Ruthin, Denbighshire, John Gittins, coroner for North East Wales and Central, said Dillan was pronounced dead at Ysbyty Gwynedd that night.
He said: "Information I have received indicated that this young boy has gone into the sea near the Great Orme while walking with friends.
"Despite efforts to provide resuscitation by those in the vicinity and the emergency services, it was to no avail.
"A post-mortem carried out by Dr Brian Rogers at Ysbyty Gwynedd has provided a provisional cause of death due to drowning, and cold water immersion."
Mr Gittins adjourned the inquest until later in the year on a date yet to be confirmed.
