THIS year marks the special anniversary of a town show.

Caerwys Agricultural Show is marking its special 40th anniversary with a wide variety of attractions when it celebrates four decades of community competition and entertainment.

It is the only agricultural show held in Flintshire and prides itself on being a true community event, where visitors can experience the very best in the world of agriculture - and have a lot of family fun to boot.

It will be held on Saturday, June 8 at Gatehouse Fields, Babell.

While Caerwys Agricultural Show, in one form or another, has been an event for the local community since before the First World War, it was revived in the late 1970s.

Since then, it has lost just two cancelled years, one in the foot-and-mouth outbreak of 2001 and one in the heavy rains of 2012.

This year's show president Roger Morris was keen to thank the supporters from in and around Caerwys who have worked over the past 40 years to keep the show going, among them the volunteer helpers, stall holders, entertainers and exhibitors.

He said: “I would like to pay tribute to the founder members for their inspiration and enterprise in launching Caerwys Show back in the 1970s, and to all past and present members of the show committee for their hard work, commitment and dedication.

“The ongoing support of the general public is very much appreciated, so on behalf of our chairman and the show committee I look forward to welcoming you all to the 40th annual Caerwys Show.”

Displays by the Broke FMX freestyle motocross team are once again a highlight of the show, which also welcomes the return of Harry Hamilton and his rescued birds of prey and Pedro's children's circus workshop.

New for this year, the Clwyd Axemen will be demonstrating their wood-carving skills.

Parking is free and admission on the gate is £7 for adults (£5 concessions) and £3 for children.

A family ticket (two adults and two children) costs £18.

A free bus will run hourly from Caerwys Square to the showfield.
