TWO aspiring Colwyn Bay track and field stars turned in a superb effort at a high-profile regional competition.

Jonathan Osbourne and Zac Hay, pupils at Rydal Penrhos school, competed for Colwyn Bay Athletics Club at the North Wales regional championships in Wrexham earlier this month and produced some notable results as a result of their respective performances.

Academic and sports scholar Jonathan managed to secure two podium finishes at the event, which saw him achieve a silver medal in the high jump after equalling his personal best.

He also secured bronze in the long jump and narrowly missed out on a medal in the 100-metre sprint, where he finished fourth despite setting a new personal best time.

Zac was taking part in his first ever competition for the club and thrived in a competitive environment, marking his debut with a bronze medal in the 300m final.

He also took part in the 100m and 200m events to further enhance his experience and gave a very good account of himself against some of the best young athletes in the region.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Pemrhos, said: “Both Jonathan and Zac have worked incredibly hard both with Colwyn Bay Athletic Club and our dedicated strength and conditioning programme, and it is really encouraging to see this paying off with some impressive results.

“They have a great desire to improve all areas of their physical ability and well being, and competing outside of school hours is something we actively encourage across all age groups.”
