CONWY's Civic Hall is now officially back on the market with a guide price in excess of £500,000.

The building, situated on Castle Street, has been listed on Rightmove.

Conwy County Borough Council is the freeholder of the site.

The Pioneer reported in May that the Civic Hall Project Board had recommended that the property should be put back on the open market.

This was supported by Conwy’s Finance and Resources Scrutiny Committee and was met with approval by Conwy’s Cabinet members.

North Wales Pioneer:

The upper floors were last used as a theatre and community facility with a capacity for circa 240 seated persons

The section of the quay - included in previous offers - is not available this time round.

Preferred options for the site include residential or a hotel development.

The listing on Rightmove states: "The Civic Hall, currently used as a Library on the ground floor, was the former town hall rebuilt in the 1960s following damage by fire.

"From the Quayside, the property benefits from far reaching views of the Conwy Estuary, Deganwy Marina and the Great Orme.

"The upper floors were last used as a theatre and community facility with a capacity for circa 240 seated persons.

"The Council is seeking to dispose of the site by way of a long leasehold agreement. The Lease will be for a term of 999 years.

"The Council is willing to accept a conditional contract for the property, on the basis of the applicant obtaining acceptable planning consent.

"The Council is not bound to accept the highest offer for the property and all applications must be accompanied with a brief synopsis of the intended use and proposal."

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon is not ruling out a second attempt to snap up the hall.

Despite their bid to buy the historic building being turned down last year by Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) cabinet, the national pub chain said they were aware that the site was once again on the market and planned to discuss the building at a property meeting “in due course”.
