ADVENTURE-SEEKING enthusiasts from across Europe participated in Quest Wales, a unique racing event held in Snowdonia National Park over the weekend.

On Saturday (June 8), participants ran, cycled and kayaked throughout Snowdonia's stunning landscapes.

Quest Wales, now in its third year, attracted record numbers in 2019 and the participants’ spirits were in no way dampened by the challenging weather conditions.

The event is estimated to have had a local economic impact of over £400,000 to the local area with an influx of bed & breakfast, restaurant and pub bookings from participants.

Starting in the idyllic village of Betws-y-Coed, undulating trails and roads through the stunning North Wales landscapes gave competitors an unforgettable experience.

Suitable for all fitness levels and abilities, participants explored three scenic routes; 25km Challenge, 42km Sport or 53km Expert – all of which offered adventure racers gripping tours of some of Snowdonia National Park’s hidden treasures including Gydyr Forest, Lln Geirionydd and Llyn Crafnant.

Oliver Kirwan, Race Director of Quest Adventure Series, commented: “With a significant increase of participants taking part this year, it’s clear to see the discoverable interest that people have in adventure racing. It was fantastic to see strong camaraderie between participants, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere to first-time and experienced adventure racers despite the unfriendly weather!”

“With another successful Quest Wales event now under our belts, we already cannot wait for next year. We look forward to seeing you on the start line!”

Councillor Louise Emery, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member, added: “We’re thrilled to have once again been a part of Quest Wales and thank Quest Adventure Series for returning to Betws-y-Coed, highlighting Conwy County is the right environment for great events.”

All participants received a medal which replicated Wales’ map outline, with prize-giving and celebrations taking place at Y Stablau at the Royal Oak Hotel.
