COMPETITORS from across the region turned out for a major recent event.

The Welsh Traditional Karate Federation's annual memorial championship was held recently at Arfon Leisure Centre, Caernarfon.

The Welsh Traditional Karate Federation is a “not for profit” organisation run by dedicated, talented and highly qualified volunteers who wish to promote worthwhile activities, lifelong skills and values to young people in the community.

Nearly 100 children took part from all over Gwynedd.

The WTKF has clubs in Amlwch, Bangor, Caernarfon, Tregarth and Nefyn.

There is also a special club based at Ysgol y Gogarth, in Llandudno.

Entry to this competition is free.

On the day, three areas had lots of different categories and a chance for every competitor to show the judges how high the standard is in all WTKF clubs.

Every competitor received a specially commissioned medal for taking part.

The Pete Hughes Memorial Trophy is awarded for noble qualities and behaviour.

The winner of this year's trophy was Colin Rydiard, of the Seki Ryu Zan Karate Club, Bangor.

Meanwhile, the Eryl Williams Memorial Trophy is awarded to the competitor with the most technically correct kihon.

The winner was Gethin Alston, also of the Seki Ryu Zan Karate Club, Bangor.

People can check out the WTKF and its clubs on Facebook.
