THE annual Denbigh Carnival returned for the eighth time as families enjoyed a memorable day out in the sunshine.
More than 250 people from schools, clubs and community groups, army cadets and emergency services, and the Cambria and Batala marching bands started the festivities on the parade through the town centre on Saturday morning.
The theme this year was land, sea and air - to celebrate the different ‘elements’ of the Denbigh community that keep the town ticking. There were impressive costume efforts including birds and butterflies, jellyfish and starfish which brightened up Middle Park field.
A record number of attendees witness axemen, falconry, wrestling, alpacas and a petting zoo, and the Denbigh tradition of ‘rolling the barrel’.
Catherine Jones, chair of the Denbigh Carnival Committee, said: “We had a record number of attendees and stalls, and we were entertained by the very best of what Denbigh has to offer; its rock and roll choir, Betty’s Belles, Vibe City Fit, and Denbigh and Ruthin Gymnastics.
“All the Denbigh royalty children were beautifully dressed and the vehicles were decorated with wonderful flowers and designs. The visiting royalty were colourful and vibrant and enjoyed the day immensely.”
Among the highlights was a modern ambulance that had been renovated into a replica First World War ambulance, containing historical first aid items, displayed by St John Cymru.
Mrs Jones added: “The volunteers who worked tirelessly to put on this wonderful event for Denbigh.”
