A NEW gym designed to support the rehabilitation of those living with long term health conditions has opened in Llandudno.

The new look Shapemaster Gym at the Tudno Health & Wellbeing Hub within the Ty Hapus Resource Centre on Ffordd Penrhyn, is also encouraging older adults to exercise.

Operated by the Tudno Community Association, the facility's new gym boasts eight power assisted exercise machines.

It has been an ongoing project for more than two years, with both Conwy County Borough Council and the Welsh Government providing funds to help launch the facility.

The gym was officially opened on June 4 by Dr Sara Payne M.B.E and Councillor Ronnie Hughes.

Dr Payne has been on a long journey of recovery - having had many aneurysms and a stroke which left her paralysed down the left side of her body.

Speaking about the opening, centre manager Jayne Black said: "It was a great success with many members using the equipment.

"Some suffer from arthritic conditions, fibromyalgia, mental health and more. All are currently seeing improvements both physically and mentally.

"We are so excited to be introducing this facility to the people of Llandudno as we know it will benefit so many older adults and those living with long term health conditions.

The specialist equipment adopted by the facility enables users to exercise passively or actively, depending on their abilities - something Jayne believes provides "excellent" helath and wellbeing benefits.

"It also encourages social engagement, a vital ingredient for our ageing population," she added. "We are staggered by the interest we have had from members of the community."
