THE takepART 2020 initiative was officially launched at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru last week.

On Friday, the huge, arts, literature and science festival saw children and young people from all over join in with the fun.

Pupils from Ysgol Bro Cernyw, Llangernyw, who won the recyclable bunting competition, were present on the day.

They won that previous competition by designing birds made from recycled plastic milk cartons and their prize for winning was to take part in an illustration workshop with takepART patron Jonny Duddle.

Jonny is an illustrator of the Harry Potter books and author/illustrator of his own series of Pirates, Dinosaurs and Space books.

The bunting competition, once again sponsored by Dylan’s Llandudno, saw old umbrellas upcycled.

The pieces of art will go on display at the eleventh edition of the takepART event to be held at Venue Cymru on January 11 and 12 on 2020.

The group is now looking for other groups and individuals to up-cycle their own umbrellas which will be put alongside the other at their vibrant display in 2020.

The takepART event is Wales’ largest arts, literature and science festival for children and young people.

Over the last decade, it has engaged around 72,000 people, with past highlights including appearances from Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown and author Philip Reeve.
