RHOS-ON-SEA Country Market is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the country market movement.
The market is held every Friday at United Reformed Church, Colwyn Avenue between 10am till 12 noon. Throughout July a celebration cake will be baked for each market.
Last Friday Colwyn Bay Mayor, Neil Bastow cut the cake, next Friday will Rev Julie Bartholomew and the following Friday, Darren Millar AM.
The movement was formed in 1919, principally to put Britain back on its feet after the First World War when thousands of men did not return home. Women set about cooking, sewing and growing fruit and vegetables, and selling them in local venues as a non profit co-operative group.
Country Markets has a network of over 450 small, local markets that take place all over England and Wales on different days of the week. It provides the opportunity for small producers to sell their produce direct to the public. Rhos on Sea Market has three sections, crafts, gardening and produce.
