A £10,000 PRIZE will be awarded to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Llandudno’s Mostyn Gallery’s open exhibition.

More than 30 artists, from as far afield as Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Portugal, Spain, USA, Australia and the UK, have been selected out of 750 submissions. The exhibition includes seven artists born or based in Wales.

Many of the artists will be attending the official opening at the Gallery in Vaughan St, on Saturday July 13 at 4pm, when the winner of the £10,000 prize, one of the largest in the UK, will be announced. A further artist will be awarded a solo exhibition at the gallery.

The prize money is generated from the submission fee charged to each artist on submitting work for selection. As an independent charity, the gallery continues to raise a large proportion of its income from trusts, foundations and commercial activities. Entry to the gallery is free, with donations welcomed.

Hannah Conroy, Mostyn’s open selector and guest curator said: “It was a real pleasure to work with the panel to select the 21st open exhibition winner. The quality of submissions, with artists from all over the world, was really high and this made the selection process an exciting challenge.

“It's quite fitting the 21st anniversary exhibition will be a celebration of such a variety of art forms.”

Mostyn claims to be Wales’ foremost contemporary gallery and visual arts centre and is part of the Plus TATE, the UK-wide contemporary visual art network.
