CHILDREN from Chernobyl paid a visit to a club to try out some crown green bowling.

Every year, a group from Chernobyl, Ukraine, come to the UK for about a month to improve their health.

As part of their experience, 14 children headed to the Penrhyn New Hall Bowling Club in Penrhyn Bay.

Wyn Owen, club captain and coach, said: "To achieve this and to make the event run smoothly were some of the juniors at the club. They had been given special permission to have time off school so that they could attend to help.

North Wales Pioneer:

A good day was had by all

"The club looks forward to the visit from the children every year. We wish to thank all the coaches, club members, the junior members and some of the juniors parents, for their help in making this visit not only successful but also so very enjoyable for these children.

"The children had a good lunch, which the club members contributed to, followed by some competitive but fun bowling. A good day was had by all."

The event was organised by welfare officer Ken Simms.

Crown green bowling is for all ages.

Wyn added: "We have had juniors taking up the sport bringing in their parents and grand parents to play the game, so there are three generations playing the game on an equal basis."
