RHYL FC picked up their second win of the pre-season with a 2-0 friendly success over Whitchurch Alport.

The Lilywhites turned in a hugely encouraging display against their English counterparts at the Educate Group Stadium, with recent signing from Huws Gray Alliance champions Asa Hamilton playing a starring role in their triumph.

A bright start from the visitors saw them spurn two good opportunities during the opening exchanges, with midfielder Tommy Creamer, a summer signing from Conwy Borough, firing wide on seven minutes following good work from Hamilton.

Creamer was in the thick of the action soon after when he was felled in the boss on eight minutes, and Hamilton managed to hold his nerve to put the spot kick away at the second attempt after his first effort was saved.

Playmaker Ross Stephens almost doubled the home side’s advantage midway through the half when his long-range strike was diverted by the visiting custodian, and Hamilton was denied a brace just before the break during a dominant spell from the Lilies.

After the interval saw Aaron Hassall almost mark his return to the side following a lengthy absence through injury with a goal, but he failed to convert from close range after some outstanding individual work in the build-up.

Dave McIntyre’s header form inside the area on 58 minutes was nearly turned into his own net by a Whitchurch defender, and Hamilton was unfortunate to see his 40-yard thunderbolt rattle the post with 61 gone.

The towering striker did not have to wait much longer to secure his brace, with Hamilton heading home a superb delivery from Hassall after 68 minutes to double their advantage.

This proved to be the last incident of not in front of goal for Eddie Maurice-Jones’ side, who saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to secure victory and clean sheet.
