A GROUP of Dwygyfylchi pupils walked up Snowdon to raise money to raise funds for their school, Ysgol Capelulo.
The pupils wanted to leave a legacy when they moved on to high school. They set a target of £3,000 to raise funds for outdoor clothing for the school. The pupils picked protective clothing as the school has a very ambitious plan to get more active in the new school year. The school has plans to use the outdoors in all seasons and weathers, so protective clothing will be put to good use.
So on what proved to be the hottest day of the year to date 23 of the school’s years five and six pupils climbed Snowdon.
Head Teacher Mrs Owen said: “From September we are introducing the daily mile and installing an outdoor cabin classroom. We see these initiatives as key to help improve health and wellbeing of our pupils, and they’re a great way to establish activity as a way of life.”
The Snowdon Challenge was a joint venture with the Dwygyfylchi village community. Three parents, trained mountain leaders, volunteered to help, and three teachers accompanied the pupils.
Governors set up a Just Giving page, and so far just under £2,000 has been raised by the pupils.
