A FRIEND'S group have secured a grant that will be used to upgrade play equipment.

The Friends of Queen's Park Craig-y-Don have won £2,500 from Calor Gas Rural Community Fund. They came first in this category and achieved 3615 votes.

The money will go towards repairing play equipment and replacing old flooring under the large swing at the area’s play park.

Jeff Wright, play equipment co-ordinator, said: "We estimate that around 12 different nationalies voted for our project , including the four nations of the UK, Ireland, Spain, Czech, Lithunia, Poland, Slovakia, Belarus, Estonia and The Ukraine, which proves what a diverse and welcoming area that we are.

"The money will be used to upgrade the safety matting beneath two sets of swings, which was our promise to Calor Gas . We also pay tribute to that company for this community initiative."

The group received a banner from Calor Glas.

Children from Springfield Day Nursery of Craig-y-Don came to join in the celebrations. They were joined by members of the friends community group and chairperson Nicola Watkin.
