THE Empire is on the march from Llandudno with a procession of princesses, Mary Poppins and, of course, a Stormtrooper.

Ysgol Aberconwy design and technology technician Ryan Davies will don the replica outfit when he joins a motley crew of Disney characters – which includes Star Wars – on Sunday, August 18 to walk 10km from Llandudno promenade to Porth Eirias in Colwyn Bay.

The group are taking on the challenge in full costume to raise £200 for charities Air Ambulance and Ty Gobaith in memory of Mr Davies’ friend Glyn Bailey who died in January.

Mr Davies, said:“These charities are close to the family of my friend Glyn, who sadly passed away in January and leaves behind his beautiful daughter Poppie and wife Denise.

“It’s Disney themed because Glyn was a huge Disney fan - Buzz Lightyear being his favourite - while Denise and Poppie also regularly attend Comic Con events too along with myself.

“Glyn will always be remembered for his kind nature, infectious laugh, unashamed geekiness and general awesomeness.”

Mr Davies - who in the past has cosplayed as Batman, a Ghostbuster, the T-1000 from Terminator 2 and a Jedi - will be wearing a custom suit has custom made to his measurements from a company called RS Propmasters. He is currently in the process of joining the UK Garrison of the 501st Legion, an international fan-based organization dedicated to the construction and wearing of screen-accurate replicas of Star Wars villains.

Mr Davies added; “It’s a screen accurate suit from the original A New Hope mouldings its ABS plastic, so it gets quite hot. I’ve fitted some fans into the helmet to help cool me down on the walk.

“My wife Bernadette and kids Olivia, 8, and Ethan, 11, are supporting me on the day dressed as Rey and Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens and Carl, the old guy from Pixar’s Up.

“I also have some support from Powerplay Musical Theatre Company so there will be some Disney Princesses and Mary Poppins on the walk too.”

“Anyone is welcome to come along for the walk and dress as your favourite Disney character. Or just pop along and throw some change in the buckets.”
