FRUSTRATION is building over public toilets in the town that continue to be closed after becoming a target for vandals.

Residents and tourists have taken to Facebook to voice their annoyance that a number of public toilets on West Shore are closed.

A sign is in place which states - please note 'Out of Order Awaiting Repairs. Sorry for the inconvenience.'

A spokesperson from Conwy County Borough Council said the local authority is experiencing continuing issues with the toilets which is due to damage and vandalism. Door bolts, handles and locks have been broken.

The accessible toilet has also had toilet seats damaged and stolen, and the support arm broken.

Sandra Hamilton visited Llandudno between August 10 and 17. She said three out of the four toilets at West Shore were closed - including the disabled toilet.

Speaking to the Pioneer, Sandra, who grew up in Llandudno and has spent the last 30 years living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, said: "Both my parents are now well into their 80's. While visiting West Shore, I was appalled to see three of the four toilets, including the disabled toilet, closed.

Sandra Hamilton shared this photograph of one of the closed toilets

"Our family has lived in Llandudno for many generations. I come home regularly and I have been bringing my parents back home to Llandudno for a one week visit at least twice a year for several years now.

"We love coming back.

"The toilets being closed, it is frustrating and delivered a very sloppy image of the town, which should be putting it's best foot forward in August.

"There was a queue of about eight people," Sandra added.

"All of whom complained about the general lack of toilets in Llandudno, especially along the prom, and specifically the number of West Shore toilets that were closed, particularly during the height of the season.

"Clearly, with such a queue, everyone was holding the door for one another and no one was paying the ridiculous 30p fee."

Sandra added: "The general sentiment was that the hoteliers and private businesses are doing their bit to keep Llandudno looking pretty and making it attractive to visitors and yet they are being badly let down by the sloppy operational standards of Conwy Council."

Taking to the You Know You are from Llandudno Facebook page, other residents shared their views on the ongoing issue.

Kerry Ibrahim said: "I agree. We visit regularly and always have problems finding toilets especially now the ones on arcade at start of pier have gone, even more so now with my disability both West Shore and Colwyn bay disabled toilets closed on all my visits."

Janet Williams said: "Passed today noticed quite a queue for a toilet. Why haven't they provided Portaloos while they sort out the problem?"

Graham T Parry posted: "That's absolutely disgusting. Height of the season. There are firms out there hiring Portaloos. There is no excuse."

Conwy Council has currently running a public toilet survey.

A spokesperson for the local authority added: "We continue to make repairs but there can be a few days delay while we wait for spare parts.

"We have confirmed with our contractor that the current repairs should be completed by Friday."
