THE Llandudno all weather lifeboat William F Yates rescued two kayakers who were on a fishing trip off the Great Orme.
The rescue took place on Sunday September 8 when the lifeboat was launched.
Both kayakers were struggling against strong currents and a flooding tide near the Great Orme Lighthouse. A passing vessel had attempted to provide assistance and remained in position to support the kayakers who were becoming fatigued by their efforts to return to shore.
The Lifeboat was able to reach them in good time when the casualties were recovered to the boat and returned to the lifeboat house in Craig-y-Don to be handed into the care of the Llandudno Coastguard.
Graham Heritage, coxswain of the Llandudno Lifeboat, said: “People need to be aware that the waters off the Great Orme Lighthouse area can be very challenging even on a nice day and good preparation is always essential, we also greatly appreciated the assistance of the small vessel which came to aid of the kayakers”.
