RHUDDLAN Town were made to sweat before retaining command of the early Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division standings at Bro Cernyw.

Wayne Hughes’ side held a commanding advantage heading into the first period before a fine fightback from the hosts, but the title hopefuls held firm in the closing stages for a dramatic 4-3 success.

Hughes, said: “It was a very tough game against a strong physical side.

“We started the game off really well and came out flying in the second half, but we then absolutely switched off giving silly balls away and a careless penalty.

“Saying that, the lads showed a fantastic desire to gold on for the win. We are showing our metal more this season as a game like this would have ended as a defeat or a draw like both fixtures last season.

“We were not at our best today, but I’ll take the three points all day long.”

A fine start for the visitors saw them go two ahead within the opening 23 minutes thanks to efforts from Jay Whitehouse and Connor Bucknall, before Bro pulled one back through Ianto Roberts on the half hour mark.

After the break saw Town extend their cushion with two quick-fire goals from Matty Beach and Jordan Bellham, but once again the home side pulled themselves back into the tie with a pair of efforts in a three-minute spell through John Gardner and a Colin Roberts penalty.

The hosts threw everything at their opponents in the dying stages of the contest, but Hughes’ side were at their defiant best to claim another valuable three points in their quest for promotion.
