WITH still eight months to go, fundraisers have shot past the halfway point for the Eisteddfod yr Urdd in Denbigh.

To date, the Denbigh Committee Appeal for Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2020 (DCAEU) has raised £36,000 of the town's £60,000 total towards the festival, set for Kilford Farm on the outskirts of Denbigh in May 2020.

Last weekend, the Denbigh committee received a £2,000 boost from Rhyl runners participating in the town's first Colour Run race, which was organised by Denbighshire based events organiser Bespoke Fitness & Events.

A spokesperson for the DCAEU said: "The Denbigh Committee Appeal for Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2020 would like to thank Bespoke Fitness & Events so much for all their hard work and effort that has been given into organising the 5k Colour Run Rhyl.

"It was an event not to be forgotten, full of fun and colour enjoyed by the whole family last Sunday.

"It’s not easy co-ordinating such an event, but the months of preparation has paid off, ensuring that everyone enjoyed themselves but more importantly raising over £2000 towards the town’s target of £60,000."

The Urdd Eisteddfod, the annual celebration of the Welsh language and culture, takes place in a different location every year.

A total of 30 committees in regions across Wales have been assigned with fundraising targets by Urdd to contribute towards the overall cost of the festival, which is expected to reach £1.8 million.

In recent years the Eisteddfod has attracted 90,000 people and is expected to bring significant footfall to the town.

The spokesperson added: "The committee would like to thank everyone who came to walk or run the race - without forgetting those who where stood on the sides supporting, and trying to avoid the paint - but there’s still a long way to go."

To continue raise the remaining £24,000, the DCAEU will continue hold fundraising events into the new year.

On Thursday, November 14 at 7pm, Denbigh Golf Club will hold a ';Concert and Casserole' event featuring harpist Dylan Ceryw, followed by Fun with Deian a Loli featuring the popular S4C children's characters two days later at Ysgol Twm o’r Nant.

On Saturday, January 25 Welsh singer Bryn Fôn will perform at Denbigh Town Hall in a benefit concert.
