A GROUP of Health & Social Care students from Gwynedd have raised more than £200 for charity after recently completing a sponsored walk.

Students from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Caernarfon site – along with their tutor, Vikki Jones, and staff member, Wendy Lloyd-Williams, undertook and completed a 5K walk in support of Cancer Research UK.

The students spent weeks planning the event, after collectively agreeing to the activity and the choosing the charitable benefactor.

Class discussions prior to the sponsored walk dealt with a wide range of logistics: distance, date, and the planning of the route to make sure everything ran smoothly.

The learners had all made badges to wear on their t-shirts during the walk to promote the initiative they were taking part in.

The students commenced the walk at 2pm, continually tracking their progress on an app on their phones. It took the group just over one and a half hours to cross the finish line.

They had also made predictions on how long the walk would take prior to leaving, with the winner receiving a fun prize for the correct guess.

Vikki Jones said: “We had an amazing time and everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed the day. We had huge support from the local community.

"We have raised £226 so far and donations are still coming in to us.”
