A woman has called for drastic action to stop a 'plague' of seagulls following a 'horrendous' attack.

Hayley Byrne from Holywell, in Flintshire, was enjoying a day out to Llandudno with her family when a seagull swooped down and attacked daughter Sienna, one,

Having parked away from the pier, Hayley gave her daughter a biscuit to enjoy on the walk down, when the 'terrifying ordeal' occurred.

She told our sister title The Leader: "It was horrendous. She was screaming, it was just awful.

"There was a shocking amount of blood and skin missing off her finger, the bird just sat in the road stunned while we tried to comfort our extremely distressed baby crying her eyes out with the shock of blood.

"We wiped it and cleaned it and took her to the chemist, we now have to clean it often and make sure it doesn't go bad or she will need antibiotics. We will never go there again.

"It's not the first time something like this has happened either, we've been a couple of times and people are complaining about the seagulls.

"You can't enjoy anything. It's always in Llandudno. It's plagued by seagulls."

Hayley has called for a cull as she says action needs to be taken.

She added: "It could have been her eye or taken her finger off or anything.

"There should be a cull or something. There's just so many of them. It's frightening and there's no warnings in place.

"How would people feel if it was their daughter that was attacked.

"I couldn't even do anything about it. The bird was stunned, all of us were pretty stunned.

"You read about it all the time, it's getting out of control. Llandudno is a lovely place where we enjoy going, but not anymore.

"And secondly I'd advise not to give a child any food near this place at all as we thought being at least a quarter of a mile away from the front she would be okay."

Berin Jones, chair of the Llandudno hospitality association said measures have been put in place to prevent seagull attacks.

He said: "As much as the seagulls can be a frustration for all of us and some of the visitors to Llandudno, they are part of nature and they are protected so there is, unfortunately, very little we can do about the problem.

"We have put up harris hawk kites and signs instructing visitors not to feed the gulls up in a number of places but they have had marginal affect."
