PUPILS and teachers at a high school have been left shocked after the death of a 'priceless' and long-serving staff member.

Delyth Jones, 47, was the assistant head and head of PE at Ysgol Bryn Elian in Old Colwyn. Miss Jones died on September 24 from natural causes.

A spokesperson for the secondary school paid tribute to Delyth.

He said: "Ysgol Bryn Elian are shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a long serving and popular member of staff, Miss Delyth Jones.

“The thoughts of the whole school community are with her family and friends at this very sad time.”

Delyth was the devoted daughter of Buddug and the late Gwyn.

In a statement, the heartbroken family of Delyth, said: "She was simply the best sister to Bethan, Elen and Mike and most adored Anti to Tomos, Catrin and Dylan. A cheeky great niece, loving niece and cousin, caring godmother and treasured friend of many."

Delyth was a dedicated member of Colwyn Netball Club. She was described as a well-respected player, coach, umpire and chair of the club for many years.

Sister Bethan said: "My sister was an amazing woman and we intend to make sure that everyone knows just how much she meant to so many."

Moving tributes have been posted on Facebook.

One pupil said: "My heart goes out to the family of a true legend and my favourite teacher who showed me so much support and encouragement in my athletics days at Bryn Elian.”

One past pupil described her as an ‘amazing teacher’. Another said she was an ‘ inspiration’ and would be missed by many.

Another posted on the North Wales Pioneer’s Facebook page: “I only dream that she knew how much in her life that she meant to students and parents alike.

A celebration of Delyth's life will take place at Capel Y Rhos , Llannerch Road East, Rhos on Sea on Tuesday, October the 8 at 2.30pm

Delyth was a lifelong supporter of Everton football club. The family have asked attendees to wear something blue. Donations will be shared between the British Heart Foundation and other charities in the area.
