A JEWELLERY store that has been in Llandudno’s high street for years has suddenly shut up shop.

H Samuel on Mostyn Street has been emptied and signs have been removed.

A man, clearing out shop, said the store couldn’t negotiate a deal with the landlord and as a result, had to close.

Cllr Harry Saville, deputy mayor of Llandudno and ward councillor, said: “All I can really say is that it is disappointing. The last 12 months for shops leaving the high street has been disappointing.

“Mostyn Estates have said they are confident they can find a new tenant and I echo that."

Other stores that have left the high street include Thomas Cook and HMV.

A spokesperson for H Samuel said: "The H.Samuel store in Llandudno, 83 Mostyn Street closed on September 21.

"We continually re-assess our portfolio of stores on a store by store basis, particularly when individual store leases come up for renewal.

"This particular closure bears no reflection upon the future plans of the Signet business estate overall within the UK.

"We are sorry to be leaving Llandudno, however we do have an H.Samuel store 30 minutes away at Unit 14, Deiniol Centre, Bangor and a wide online offering."
