A LOCAL history society is set to stage a talk with the headteacher of Denbigh High School about pupils during the First World War.
Attendees of the Ruthin Local History Society’s (RLHS) first meeting of the new season will hear Dr Paul Evans discuss the experience of Denbigh County School pupils in the Great War of 1914-1918.
Like many communities in Great Britain, the boys’ school for Denbigh and Ruthin faced huge uncertainty during the war as men aged 18 to 40 – and younger – were conscripted to fight abroad. Meanwhile at home the towns accepted refugees and women had new work opportunities.
The RHLS promotes interest in and knowledge of all aspects of Ruthin’s past, from pre-history to modern times. It aims to provide a broad range of topics to members and non-members during winter, on the third Wednesday of each month.
The meetings take place at Canolfan Awelon, School Road in Ruthin.
The next talk takes place at 7.30pm on October 16.
Admission to non-members costs £2, with annual membership at £5
