NORTH Wales’ only parrot rescue service is giving Llandudno residents a festive chance to make a feathered friend.

As part of celebrations marking the opening of its first shop on Greenfield Road in Colwyn Bay, Joan’s North Wales Parrot Rescue will follow up its successful fair in Craig-y-Don on October 6 with a Christmas Fair on Sunday, December 15.

More than 40 people attended the fair in support of the rescue service which began life five years ago from the sitting room of Joan and Mani Rakhra, raising £200 on the day towards awareness and rescuing parrots in need of a home.

Mrs Rakhra said: “People from the local area have been so overwhelming in their help, they’ve been fantastic.”

The non-profit organisation - which earned the Global Award for the Parrot Inspirational from the Washington DC based Bird Observers Magazine - is on its way to becoming recognised as a full fledged charity.

The December 15 event is at Craig-y-Don Community Centre from noon to 4pm.
