A HOSPITAL's popular park and ride service have been granted another extension.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) will keep the free transport scheme, which takes patients from the former Hotpoint factory site in Bodelwyddan to Glan Clwyd Hospital, open for another six months until April 2020.
In June, our sister title The Rhyl Journal reported the Glan Clwyd Hospital's Park and Ride would be extended until October 31.
The service, used by thousands on patients, was originally due to stop running on June 30, and remains under review by the health board.
Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones, who has been among those leading calls to keep the service open, said: “Following a number of meetings and strong representations from myself I am pleased to see the park and ride scheme at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd extended.
"I will be meeting shortly with the health board to discuss the long term approach to retaining this excellent and valued service."
The park and ride scheme was introduced in October 2014 to help ease parking pressures and traffic congestion while redevelopment work went on at the hospital.
Since the news of BCUHB review into the service in January, pressure has been mounting on the health board to continue operating the service which is aimed mainly at staff but it is also popular with patients.
BCUHB have been approached for comment.
