AS the sun sets on a colourful summer for the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, organisers are planning the launch of its 2020 programme with a star performance from an acclaimed Welsh tenor.
Rhys Meirion is considered a favourite of the International Eisteddfod and he will return to perform at the International Christmas concert on December 15. Meirion’s impressive vocals will headline the festive evening alongside the musical talents of pianist Julian Gonzales and the International Folk Dancers.
Mr Meirion said: “I am really looking forward to singing at the iconic Llangollen Pavilion once again.
“The International Eisteddfod has a very special place in my heart as I remember seeing Pavarotti perform in the mid-90s and it was one of the moments that inspired me to take the plunge and pursue a career in music.”
Flintshire songbird Elan Catrin Parry will also feature at the glittering event the Royal International Pavilion Hall. She left audiences in awe last year with her performance of her debut album ‘Angel’ and promises to enthral once again but this time with festive melodies.
Dr Edward Rhys-Harry, artistic director of the International Eisteddfod, said: “We are thrilled to welcome internationally renowned Welsh tenor, Rhys Meirion to Llangollen for our Christmas concert. We hope that the audience will enjoy this year’s festive celebrations, which will showcase a selection of outstanding musical talent.
“It promises to be an enchanting evening with fantastic performances to get us all into the Christmas spirit.”
Alongside the music there will be the ‘Gift of Giving’ reverse grotto where guests are encouraged to donate food items to be donated to the Llangollen Food Bank.
Elise Jackson, community engagement officer for the International Eisteddfod, said: “We’re delighted to launch an extra element to our carol concert this year, with the ‘Gift of Giving’ initiative with the local food bank.
“We’d encourage everyone to bring long shelf life food donations on the night to help support local people who struggle to provide for their families at Christmas.”
Admission costs £13 adults and £5 for children, while under 5s enter free. Tickets are available at the Llangollen Pavilion from October 19.
