As the Christmas season approaches, Wrexham will play host to a wide range of events in order to bring the community together and encourage more people to attend the town centre.

Festivities will officially kick-off on November 14 when the annual Christmas Lights Switch On event will be taking place, which has been organised by the Rotary Club in liaison with the events team at Wrexham Council.

The tree will arrive earlier in that week, with organisers expecting it to be just as impressive as last year’s.

The event will also consist of a massive stage, live music, a large fairground, lots of festive stalls and entertainment, a red button switching on of the lights and a fireworks finale, which aims to get everyone into the festive spirit.

Wrexham will also see a special appearance from the man himself, Santa, who will be visiting the town at the end of November.

Santa can be found in his grotto in Tŷ Pawb from Saturday, November 30, until he departs for his big delivery mission on December 24.

The grotto will be open Monday to Friday from 2pm until 6pm and is priced at £5 per child.

However, on Saturdays, Sundays and Christmas Eve, the grotto opening times with alter slightly, as they will be open from 11am until 4pm.

No booking is required and tickets can be purchased from the reception in Tŷ Pawb.

Next on the festivities list, comes the town’s popular Christmas Markets.

This year, Wrexham will be holding two due to its ongoing success from previous years, which saw almost 33,000 individuals paying a visit to the Victorian Market, held in St Giles Church and the surrounding area - as well as the over 27,000 individuals who visited the Christmas Market on Llwyn Isaf.

The Victorian Market will be held on December 5 from 12pm to 8pm.

The event will consist of stalls in the grounds of St Giles Church and in the church itself, as well as Hope Street, High Street and Church Street.

The three day Christmas Village on Llwyn Isaf will open its doors at 10am on December 13 and will be in Wrexham until December 15.

On Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14, the stalls will be open until 8pm with entertainment in the teepee until 10pm.

The village will close at 4pm on Sunday, December 15.

As reported in the Leader yesterday Wrexham Council will provide free parking during certain dates and times in many of their car parks during the Christmas period.
