CHAPS is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special pantomime this year.

Conwy Civic Hall Amateur Players Society (CHAPS) will stage Humpty Dumpty this November.

The pantomime has been written by director Keith Wood's late mother Pearl Hood.

Pearl Hood wrote a pantomime scheduled to be presented in 1980 - a full-length reworking of her 1965 show Humpty Dumpty.

Pearl died in December 1979, and the cast and crew decided to not continue the production without her.

The script was consigned to a box of family memorabilia for the next 40 years but it has now been dusted off and made its way into the open.

Keith, who joined CHAPS last year, said: "A few adjustments have been made for the new context. My wife, Rita, one of my mum's pupils and the title role in 1977's Cinderella, is choreographing the show.

"The panto is set in Nursery Rhyme Land. The characters are familiar nursery rhyme characters - all is fine as long as Humpty stays sat on his wall, but should he ever fall off."

To mark the milestone, the song A Happy Ending, written especially for CHAPS in 2001 when the drama group featured on the BBC Tune Team show, will be performed.

Keith added: "Things are progressing well, but with only just weeks until opening night - it seems to be rushing up on us very quickly!"

Performance dates:

Memorial Hall: 7.30pm November 22; 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, November 23 and 2.30pm Sunday, November 24.

Rhos-on-Sea Methodist Church Hall: 2.30pm and 7.30pm Saturday, November 30.
