RHOS-on-Sea Rotary Club has again joined forces with the North Wales Pioneer to bring light the Cayley Promenade this Christmas.

The Tree of Lights will return to Rhos-on-Sea, marking the 21st occasion this spectacle has featured on the promenade. It will be lit up at 4.30pm Sunday November 24. Every light purchased will raise funds for Llandudno based charity St David’s Hospice.

Organiser Ken Owen said: “Each light will shine brightly throughout December to commemorate those we have loved and lost. For each light dedicated to a loved one, a Tree of Lights card will be sent to you by post. Your loved ones’ name will also be entered into a special Book of Lights, which will be available to view in the Hospice chapel throughout 2019. This year, Rhos Rotary has purchased new lights that will shine brighter than ever commemorating loved ones. We are very grateful for the support of Conwy Voluntary Services Council and thank Mr. Aled Roberts for his guidance along with Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm, Welsh Water and Colwyn Town Council for their sponsorship and sterling help so that our St. David’s Hospice support continues for years to come. The tree has become an annual feature and a part of Christmas within the community. The Rotary Club said the annual ‘switching on’ ceremony is a highlight on its and St David’s Hospice calendar.

This event has raised a phenomenal £263,000 to date. Rhos-on-Sea Rotary President James Briggs said: “Every Christmas we are overwhelmed by the support we receive from Pioneer readers and many others in support of St David’s Hospice. Just 12% of its annual costs of £4 million comes from the Health Board with the remainder having to be raised from events such as this.

“This is a magnificent charity and with your help in our 21st celebration year we hope to raise much needed funds to enable them to carry on their good work. Thank you for your continued kindness”.
