A SEVEN year old budding naturalist inspired by David Attenborough’s TV documentaries, plans to walk 6.5 kilometres around the Great Orme to raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund.

Charlie Cottington, who lives in Llanrhos, was so moved by the Seven Worlds One Planet television series and the destruction of the rain forests it depicted, he wanted to take action.

Charlie said: “Every five seconds, an area of trees the size of a football pitch is being taken down, and that’s not good for the poor animals. Please sponsor me so I can help these animals to thrive and grow”

His mother Fran said: “From about the age of two, Charlie has been very passionate about animals and the environment, choosing to be a vegetarian, the only one in the family, and re using and recycling anything he can.

“He has always been a huge fan of David Attenborough and watches his documentaries religiously. Recently, he watched the new series Seven Worlds, One Planet, and was deeply concerned by the destruction of the rain forest and the negative impact it’s having on the animals that live there.”

She added: “He has been asking since what he can do to help, and after some discussion, he decided to do a sponsored walk to raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund. This is a non profit organisation whose mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment.

“Charlie will be doing his 6.5 kilometre walk around the Great Orme on Christmas Eve, starting at 12pm.

“He will be starting at the Grand Hotel and making his way around the Orme to west shore and then making his way back to complete full circle.

“We have set up a Go Fund Me page for Charlie for anyone who wishes to sponsoring him on his walk, the link is: gf.me/u/wyf6qr.”
