RHYL and District’s youth side put in a spirited display before eventually falling to a 31-5 loss at a strong Ruthin outfit.

The young Dragons’ have made great strides throughout the campaign to date and took plenty of positives from their latest contest despite the eventual outcome, and they now face a new challenge in 2020 due to the upcoming league split in accordance with an improved structure.

A dominant opening to proceedings from the home side saw them power their way over for the first try of the game during the opening exchanges, but the Dragons’ responded well and were rewarded for their improved play with a sensation individual score of their own from Oliver Staveley.

This was met by a swift response from the hosts, who crossed the white wash just before the break to take a narrow lead into the interval, and they pulled further clear early in the second period thanks to a pair of tries in quick succession.

Credit to the visitors, who kept up their efforts right until the end but were unable to impact the score board further against a resolute Ruthin rear-guard.

A club spokesman, said: “The squad’s commitment and improvement is something they should be proud of.

“We will see how they compete in the new league after the Christmas break but the future is looking very positive for Rhyl and District as this team matures in all aspects of the game.

“Head coach Angus Garbutt and his team of coaches have done an incredible job with the whole squad.”
