A HOMELESS man living on the streets in miserable weather and with threadbare shoes had stolen trainers, socks and underpants to wear, his solicitor told a court.

John Williams, 41, on benefit, admitted theft from Peacocks at Colwyn Bay and of washing tablets from Poundstretcher.

Magistrates at Llandudno fined him £80 with £117 costs.

Nia Dawson, defending, said he had handed over the items, apologised and waited for police on both occasions. His shoes had been falling apart.

Mrs Dawson said Williams needed a higher dose of methadone because of his drug problem.
