A COLWYN Bay school’s combined cadet force (CCF) has been granted the honour of wearing the badge of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards, the Welsh Cavalry, on its uniforms.

The regiment has agreed to sponsor the Rydal Penrhos’ CCF, and the announcement was marked by a visit by soldiers of the regiment to the school.

The soldiers spoke about their role within the British Army and demonstrated some of the weapons they are equipped with.

Sally-Ann Harding, senior school head, said: “This is a significant honour for our CCF, which has generated considerable support since being formed earlier this year.

“Each member is rightfully proud to wear the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards badge on their uniforms and they got an enormous amount out of the presentation and weapons demonstration during the visit.”

The regiment recruits from Wales and the bordering English counties of Cheshire, Herefordshire, and Shropshire, and is a senior cavalry regiment.
