RHYL secured their second straight win in emphatic style thanks to a 7-1 home rout over Llanfair United.

The Lilywhites’ overcame the JD Cymru North basement dwellers with minimal fuss following a superb attacking display, which will give them plenty of confidence heading into Saturday’s crunch JD Welsh Cup fourth round clash at top-flight Newtown (2.30pm).

A cagey opening from both sides saw little in the way of goalmouth activity, but the Lilies’ managed to gain the upper hand on 24 minutes when Aaron Hassall delivered a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

This visibly spurred on the home side to raise the tempo further and they doubled their advantage on the half hour mark thanks to defender Ben Nash, who diverted a free kick from the returning James Murphy into the net.

Ryan McVeagh went close to halving the deficit just before the break when he saw his effort rattle the crossbar, and the hosts made them pay for their unfortunate miss following the interval as Nash and Murphy combined again on 51 minutes for his second of the afternoon.

United were given a glimmer of hope on the hour mark thanks to a sensational free kick from Paul Griffiths that gave keeper Rory Crowther no chance, but their joy proved to be short-lived as Tom Weir pounced to despatch another chance for his first senior goal with 66 on the clock.

Things got even better soon after when creative midfielder Tommy Creamer opened his account with a calm finish under duress on 69 minutes, and the ex-Conwy Borough standout fired in his brace on 75 after some outstanding build-up play in the final third.

The home side were handed a golden chance to add to their eye-catching tally on 79 when they were awarded a penalty after Sam Molyneux was felled in the box, and Creamer held his nerve to put away the spot kick to round off the scoring and seal his hat trick.
