A COLLISION between an HGV and two cars blocked the A55 at the junction with the A51 in Chester on Tuesday morning.

Police said the incident was reported to them at 8.34am and the location of the incident is on the westbound carriageway, underneath junction 40 (Vicars Cross).

Traffic heading westbound was diverted via the sliproads to the junction and around the roundabout.

Motorists were advised to expect delays as congestion, which normally builds at the A55/A51 junction during rush-hour, has seen tailbacks as far as the M53 motorway.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area if possible.

Police, fire and ambulance teams were deployed to the scene. No-one was reported as being trapped inside the vehicles and fire crews made the area safe.

Two people were treated by paramedics and the road was reopened at about noon.
