A FORMER police officer from Deganwy, accused of fraud in his role as treasurer of a boys’ football club, appeared in court last Monday.

Michael Smith denied the allegation when he stood in the dock at Liverpool Crown Court.

It is alleged that between February 10 and December 12, 2017 he committed fraud by dishonestly making a gain for himself or another by abusing his position as defacto treasurer of Llandudno under 13 Football Club by transferring funds to a business he owned.

Bearded Smith, 45, of Bron Vardre Avenue, pleaded not guilty to the single count and is to face trial in the week commencing July 20 and he was further remanded on bail.

The court heard that he has resigned as police officer.
