Four men due to stand trial in connection with the death of a man shot with a crossbow have denied conspiracy to commit arson.

Terence Whall, 39, appeared at Mold Crown Court charged with the murder of 74-year-old Gerald Corrigan, who was shot as he adjusted a satellite dish outside his house in a remote part of Holyhead, Anglesey, at about 12.35am on April 19 last year.

Whall, of Bryngwran in Anglesey, and co-defendants Darren Jones, 41, Martin Roberts, 34, and Gavin Jones, 36, deny conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

At the hearing, a charge of conspiracy to commit arson was added to the indictment.

All four men, who are accused of conspiring to set fire to a Land Rover Discovery, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Roberts and Darren Jones also denied a charge of arson.

On Tuesday, potential jurors completed a questionnaire and were told to return to court on Wednesday, when the jury will be selected and the trial will open.

Mr Corrigan was shot through his upper body, with the bolt narrowly missing his heart and passing through his right arm.

He died in hospital on May 11.

Mr Corrigan worked as a lecturer in photography and video in Lancashire before retiring to Anglesey more than 20 years ago.

After his funeral, his partner Marie Bailey said: "He was my best friend and my soulmate. All the time we have been together I have been proud to walk at his side and he stood beside me, always."
