MEMBERS of a Women’s Institute took part in an evening of life saving.

Hope Women's Institute were left wondering what to do when their planned guest speaker had to cancel last minute and 'kind-hearted' local training company Litegreen LTD stepped in to provide a surprise evening of lifesaving skills.

The evening started with a guide through the simple steps of CPR, rescue breaths and chest compressions before the group were able to take part themselves with CPR dolls.

The group shared their own experiences and worries around first aid before being introduced to using a model AED (Defibrillator).

Sue Roscoe from the WI said: "The Ladies of Hope WI are extremely grateful to Dave and Shanone of Litegreen for providing this session, and are delighted with their certificates.

"Just being able to see and handle the machine, and be aware that the machine itself will give complete verbal instruction gave every single one of us the confidence to be able to use it, and removed any worries or misconceptions that we may have had."

Shanone Towers, Director at Litegreen added: "For those that have never been trained to use a defibrillator, or even seen one up close, the thought of grabbing the nearest one and ‘giving it a go’ is always a big worry.

"One thing that I think the group got out of tonight’s training is that there is no need to be afraid of a defib, defibs are very simple and very intelligent, designed to talk you through what to do, so it was great to see everyone’s surprise and confidence grow as a result."

Litegreen’s next free CPR community drop-in session will be held on February 7 at the Wrexham Enterprise Hub 9am-2pm.

David Walker, director of Litegreen said: "CPR in the community is really important to us. Thousands more mums, dads, grandparents, children could be saved if people just tried CPR and knew the basics of how to save a life.

"We’ve been running ‘First Aid for Free’ community drop ins all last year to allow anyone with a bit of time and curiosity to learn."
