FAMILY and friends gathered at a football club to remember a devoted teacher as a charity was launched in her name.

Delyth Wyn Jones, who was assistant headteacher and head of PE at Ysgol Bryn Elian in Old Colwyn, died unexpectedly on September 24 2019 of a pulmonary embolism.

She would have turned 48 on Monday, January 20. To commemorate her birthday, family launched the Delyth Wyn Jones Foundation.

Bethan, Delyth’s sister, said: "About 150 to 200 people came, all colliding from all her worlds - netball, school, ex pupils. As it was her birthday, we all raised a glass to her.

"We gave a donation of about £500 to the British Heart Foundation. We did two additional cheque presentations [money raised / donated] to the foundation.

"We also raised awareness of the charity and spoke about its purpose."

Delyth was a well-respected player, coach, umpire and chair of Colwyn Netball Club

A first aid bag has been donated to Colwyn Bay Netball Club titled - 'Del's Angel bag'.

"That is where Delyth would normally be on Mondays and Wednesdays," Bethan added.

The charity has a two fold purpose: To help raise awareness of pulmonary embolism - a blocked blood vessel in the lungs, and to help support youngsters in their sporting aspirations.

It will provide scholarships and help those unable to participate due to financial issues.
