INFORMATION on the Novel Coronavirus is being provided to healthcare settings, airports, seaports, and universities in Wales as a "precautionary measure."

Public Health Wales has issued a statement on outbreak in Wuhan, China and says there are currently no confirmed cases of the virus reported in Wales.

Dr Giri Shankar, Professional Lead Consultant for Health Protection at Public Health Wales, said:

“There are currently no confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in Wales or in the rest of the UK, and the risk to the UK is low.

“We continue to work with our partners in Welsh Government, the wider NHS in Wales, the other UK nations and others to monitor the situation closely.

“We are supporting our partners in the Department of Health and Social care, who are working to get British Nationals back from Wuhan. Anyone returning from Wuhan will be safely isolated for 14 days, with all necessary medical attention.

“As a precautionary measure, information is being provided to healthcare settings, Welsh airports, seaports, and universities in Wales.

“The public can be assured that the whole of the UK is always well prepared for these types of outbreak. Working with our partners in Wales and the UK, we have implemented our planned response, with measures in place to protect the health of the public.”

Coronavirus presents with flu-like symptoms including a fever, a cough, or difficulty breathing. The current evidence is that most cases appear to be mild.
