AN award-winning music cooperative led by teachers for school pupils has appointed a new chair.

Mark Young, Denbigh county councillor, will lead the Denbighshire Music Co-operative (DMC) after former chair Martin Davis left the role due to family commitments.

The music co-operative aims to provide a range of instrument and vocal tuition in schools across Denbighshire to develop each pupil’s musical potential according to their individual needs and aspirations. Lessons include guitar, piano, percussion and woodwind.

Cllr Young said: “I’m delighted to join the board who are passionate about delivering music to all our children with our fantastic partners.

“Beethoven once said ‘Music can change the world!’ That’s how important it was to him, and what better way to achieve this but by teaching students to do this one note at a time.”

A DMC spokesperson said: “The Board are delighted to announce that we have a new chair. Our previous chair Martin Davies stepped down in January owing to family commitments and we sincerely thank Martin for all of his hard work to date with the service.

“Mark’s position begins today after a unanimous vote by the board. Mark will bring a new drive and vision to the service – he is very experienced and works in many youth & charity settings across Denbigh and North Wales.”
