A VALE of Clwydd Welsh Youth Parliament (WYP) member took part in a historical debate in the Senedd recently.

Jonathan Dawes, who was elected to the WYP in 2018, took part in an event which saw WYP members join Assembly Members, party leaders, cabinet minsters and the first minister in the Senedd Chamber.

Jonathan, 17, said: "Out of the 60 WYP members, only four of us had the opportunity to speak and I was honoured to have been one of them.

"I addressed the chamber to discuss my work and the collective work of the Welsh youth parliament on Life skills in the curriculum.

"This was a historic day for Welsh politics and I was so happy to have the opportunity to be the first ever young person to speak in a legislative Chamber on behalf of the young people of Wales in such a historic political event."

Jonathan also recently had the opportunity to release the WYP's life skills report alongside Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams. This contained important recommendations for the Welsh Government to consider for the New Curriculum.
