A FORMER Mochdre man who played a major part in the early success of a leading British car parts company, has died after a long illness.

Stanley Edwards, of Windsor Drive, Old Colwyn, was just 17 years of age when he joined the the village-based car parts company Quinton Hazell, later retiring as superintendent in charge of production.

In 1958, he started with the company as a tool setter and by the early 60s he had been promoted to foreman of divisional motor parts.

The success of the company warranted a move to new premises on newly acclaimed land near Bron y Nant, a move that was to see the company's success go from strength to strength as it established a world-wide reputation for quality motor parts.

With continued expansion, Stan's expertise led him to be promoted to divisional superintendent and in the years that followed was instrumental in expanding the company's reputation.

Eventually sold to Burmah Oil, the company was later taken over by an an American company.

He was to take early retirement having completed 42 years with the company.

Retired journalist Elwyn Edwards, said his brother was a strong family man, who had always instilled in his son Paul and daughter Lynsey, a sense of care and responsibility, a trait passed down now to all his grandchildren.

"His insistence on treating others with measured guidance was paramount throughout his life and few who really knew him would argue his ability to bring happiness and fond memories to so many others.

"A realist, Stan had strong views of life in general, but one thing is absolutely certain.

"Life to him was a pathway. Sometimes awash with joy. Other times fraught with challenges", added Elwyn

The funeral is on Tuesday.
