PLANS to turn the former Marks and Spencer menswear store in Llandudno into a bar and restaurant are back on.

Loungers are looking to take on part of the 55 Mostyn Street site, which has been empty since February 2018 after the M&S store which had stood there for eighty years was closed.

The planning application submitted on February 26, states the proposal would include the “Subdivision of the unit into two parts - a change of use of Unit A to Use Class A3 (Cafe/Restaurant).”

It would also see a “change of use of the highway to external seating area, shopfront alterations and the installation of an extraction system”.

The bar and restaurant chain’s initial application submitted to Conwy Council was rejected by planning officers on the grounds of the design of the extraction and ventilation system potentially causing an “odour, smell and noise impact” to nearby residents.

A new application has now been submitted by Loungers, which includes an updated plan for the ventilation system.

Loungers Property Director Tom Trenchard said: “We were enormously disappointed when our initial application was turned down, but that’s all water under the bridge now.

“We’re really looking forward to potentially launching one of our bars in Llandudno, as we think it’s a great location for us.

“We already have bars that are thriving in North Wales so this could be another one that’s great for this Town. We're hoping to get a decision within the next eight weeks."

Loungers currently has around 166 bars and restaurants located throughout the UK.

Set up in 2002, the company first made its way into North Wales last November when it opened Torello Lounge in Prestatyn before Clio Lounge in Bangor was launched soon after.
