The zoo has welcomed its first baby of 2020. Mum with baby Angelica

Stephen Perry, head keeper at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, said: “The Ring tailed lemur is listed as endangered due to the destruction of it natural habitat and the exotic pet trade, and so it’s great to be able to support the conservation effort with our latest arrival.

“This is the first baby for mum, and I’m pleased to say both mum and baby are doing well, responding and behaving as expected.”

Ring tailed lemurs are able to adapt very easily to new environments and can live anywhere including rainforest and scrubland or savanna. They eat fruit and vegetables and occasionally insects.

Famed for their iconic long tails, the Ring tailed lemur live in a matriarchal society, meaning, women are in charge.

Breeding of endangered Ring tailed lemur’s has been successful at the zoo; Angelica is the third baby born at the attraction in the past three years.
