AN elderly man died in hospital days after suffering a fall at his home, an inquest has been told.

Edward Frederick Gillman, aged 84, of Bradford Road, Bournemouth, died at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital on March 21, this year.

Coroner Brendan Allen presided over an inquest into the death of the retired insurance manager at Dorset Coroner's Court, Bournemouth Town Hall, on Wednesday. (April 1)

Reading a statement from coroners officer Ken McEwan, Mr Allen said Mr Gillman had been admitted to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital on March 17 following a fall at his home, where he hit his head.

A CT scan taken at hospital showed a bilateral subdural haemorrhage.

"His condition deteriorated and he was placed on a personalised end of life care plan," said Mr Allen.

The cause of death was recorded as traumatic subdural haematoma.

Mr Allen concluded: "Edward Frederick Gillman died as a consequence of the injuries he sustained in an accidental fall, on the background of naturally occurring disease."
