A WREXHAM girl teamed up with a local cake business to deliver treats to NHS workers.
Nine-year-old Sophie Evans, from Ponciau, saved up her pocket money to make and donate cakes to the staff at Wrexham Maelor Hospital as a show of gratitude for all the hard work they are doing amid the coronavirus crisis.
And when Simon Hough, owner of Wrexham-based Creative cakes by Simon, heard about the scheme, he generously agreed to match Sophie's donation of £20 worth of cakes for local NHS staff.
He said: "Sophie’s mums Shelley contacted us at Creative cakes by Simon to see if we could help with Sophie’s idea to treat our NHS front line heroes to say a personal thank you for the sacrifices they're making to keep us and other people safe.
"I was amazed by Sophie’s gesture and matched what’s she saved and created a package for them."
Sophie, who attends Ysgol Penygelli in Coedpoeth, then delivered the cakes, as well as thank you posters she designed, to Wrexham Maelor nurse Tracy Richards - who took the cakes into work for her and her colleagues to enjoy.
Mum Shelley Evans said: "Sophie would love to say a massive thank you to Simon at Creative cakes and also all NHS heroes for doing such a fantastic job during this crisis."
