A local micro-brewing company have applied to open a second branch of their home brewed craft ale.

The owners of the Nook & Cranny, Darwen Road, in Bromley cross, Egan and Martin Ltd, run by two friends James Martin and Craig Egan, have applied to take over the vacant Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Gate Fold, Harwood.

The RBS site has been vacant since January 2019, with this planning application to bring the site, which shares a complex with a Morrisons supermarket and Harwood Library, submitted to the council on April 2.

The planning application states that the site will primarily used as a functioning, licensed, bar, but it will also allow for the retail sale of bottled beers and ales to take away from the site.

The application adds that the bar will offer locally brewed hand-pulled cask and keg beers; a brewing area in the site itself, with this beer available to but in house.

It will also offer sales of "niche" local and worldwide beers not traditionally sold in supermarkets; and further in the future will serve hot and cold bar snacks.

Craig Egan, co-owner of the Nook & Cranny, said that he was very excited at the prospect of opening a new bar, with himself and James Martin doing their best to keep positive during this period.

Mr Egan said: "We saw the opportunity and we had to take it. We wanted to keep focused and keep going."

Although the bar could open as an off licence immediately, the pair didn't feel that would be right given the current situation.

He added: "We want this bar to boost the area, bring something different, we saw this happen with the Nook & Cranny in Bromley Cross.

"We're hoping it will bring a nice fresh place for everyone to enjoy.

"Micropubs bring something new and always evolve, will hopefully bring more people out to pubs again."
